Watcharee Limanon, a Thai culinary artist from Bangkok, has created a distinctive line of exquisite and authentic Thai sauces. While Watcharee likes to tell people that she inherited her love of Thai cooking from her mother, she took a winding path in following her passion.

As a young girl, Watcharee spent many happy hours on the weekend with her mother learning how to make traditional Thai food for her family. Her favorite dishes were pad Thai, massaman curry, green mango salad, and grilled fish with garlic and turmeric. When she entered university, however, Watcharee followed in the footsteps of her father, an eminent Thai Supreme Court justice, and studied law. After practicing law for a time in Thailand, she came to the U.S. and studied environmental and international law, eventually returning to Bangkok and helping governments across Asia adopt better environmental laws

It was her travels throughout Asia as a lawyer, ironically, that led Watcharee to rediscover her passion for cooking and Asian traditions.  Whether on assignment in Vietnam or India or Indonesia, she would dine at famous restaurants, visit fresh markets or try street food delicacies, which sparked her childhood memories of cooking with her mother and inspired her to deepen her own culinary skills.  In Bangkok, she trained with top chefs at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Le Cordon Bleu Dusit Culinary School, as well as other culinary institutes that promote and preserve Thai royal traditions.

In 2012, Watcharee moved from Bangkok to Cousins Island in Casco Bay in Maine where she now lives with her husband and twin boys, and established the Thai Culinary Arts Studio to share her passion for Thai food. Drawing on the local abundance of seafood and fresh produce, she teaches the joys of authentic Thai food through pop-up and in-home cooking classes. One takeaway from this experience for Watcharee has been that people are looking for ready-to-use sauces that are authentic, healthy and convenient.

As a result, in 2014 Watcharee began bottling her favorite sauces made from traditional, all natural ingredients and shared them with friends and family, and the positive reaction was immediate, especially among busy people who crave authentic flavors and demand healthy ingredients. Gradually, Watcharee began selling her sauces locally at fairs and farmers markets, and then through local retailers, and the WATCHAREE’S line was born!
